Store Cleaner TLC – Glen Hills

The Local Choice Pharmacy require a Store Cleaner for their Glen Hills KZN Store. Ensure a clean and neat office space while maintaining a hygienic standard throughout the store.


  • Grade 12 / Matric

Job Specification:

  • Provide a high standard of hygiene and cleanliness throughout the store on a daily basis
  • Develop routines to ensure all areas are maintained to a high standard of cleanliness
  • Clean according to the sequence of the SOP
  • Ensure that all rooms and restroom is clean and stocked up with the necessary products at all times
  • Be available at all time, throughout operational hours, to clean up as required
  • Ensure refuse doesn’t contain any products or valued goods before disposing it
  • Ensure all waste is separated into different waste bags for disposal according to the waste category e.g. Food Waste, Plastic Waste, Paper/Cardboard Waste, Steel/Tin Waste and Other Waste
  • Vacuum carpeted areas (meeting and training rooms) daily as per standard operating procedures
  • Vacuum other carpeted areas once a week as per standard operating procedures
  • Dust desks, chairs, telephones, shelves, photocopiers etc. in offices and meeting rooms as per standard cleaning procedures
  • Remove finger marks from surfaces such as walls, shelves and light switches etc. on a daily basis
  • Ensure that basic cleaning principles: Sort, Straighten, Shine, Standardize and Sustain are applied at all times as per the cleaning procedure
  • Adhere to industry health and safety regulations while performing duties.
  • Ensure to use different colour coded or properly cleaned cleaning equipment when commencing a cleaning operation in a different cleaning environment e.g. Clinic, Kitchen/Canteen, Office Area, Ablution/Toilet Areas
  • Ensure no cleaning utensils are left unattended on the office floor and that it is stored away while not in use
  • Ensure that the wet floor sign is up and visible at both ends when cleaning the floor
  • Ensure that suitable dust mask and colour coded gloves are worn when cleaning areas where there are signs of excessive dust, Insect infestations, moulds, chemical dust and floor drains and blocked or soiled toilets
  • Ensure mops and cloths are washed properly, rinsed out and hung up to dry immediately after use to sustain disinfection during the cleaning process
  • Be friendly and professional – able to deal with customers when they are on-site while cleaning is being performed
  • Guide customers to the right floor or people when asked for assistance
  • Communicate with staff and guests in a clear and friendly manner
  • Solve minor problems or redirect it to the team leader for assistance
  • Ensure kitchens and bathrooms have enough stock and are cleaned according to standards report any low or out of stock to the team leader
  • Report any malfunctioning equipment or items in areas of operation: doors, handles, locks, taps, cisterns, lights, switch, etc. to the team leader
  • Assist in setting up meeting rooms, preparing cups, glasses and plates, water, tea and coffee for directors meetings
  • Preparing tea and coffee and serve it to guest as required, clear and collect used cups, plates and cutlery and wash up, keep kitchens clean and tidy
  • Housekeeping must be in accordance to Dis-Chem standards
  • Adhere to Dis-Chem Policies and Procedures and Standard Operating Procedures
  • Adhere to Health and Safety rules and regulations
  • Adhere to Dis-Chem Uniform and personal appearance policy

Special conditions of employment:

  • South African citizen or valid work permit
  • Clear credit and criminal records
  • Be able and willing to work occasional overtime
  • Physical demands include walking and standing, climbing, kneeling, push and pull objects, lift and move objects , repetitive bending
